PLAYROOMS | It's all in the details

As you are planning the design and construction of your new home, each space deserves careful thought, consideration and planning. Plan, plan, plan. And then plan some more. The details are the most important thing you do! I could say it a thousand times a day.

This includes areas meant for the smallest members of your family. Children need a place to play and their things need a place to stay. Usability and functionality are as important when designing a children’s space as they are when designing a kitchen or a bathroom. As in life, the key is to find a good balance. Keep the space spirited and playful, while making it functional and practical.

back to blogging ... tuesday's turquoise

it has been a challenging, exhilarating, exhausting, enlightening 18 months for me. all culminating with the sale of my stationery and invitation business and going full time with lynlee harvey AT HOME consulting and design in 2012. for a girl who has always tended to play it on the safe, predictable side, this was a huge step. and i am so thankful every day that i was brave enough to take a leap!

finally, the perfect job for me. and yes, on a construction site talking about concrete, masonry, electrical switches and drywall. i'm so excited that i might have even described myself as "giddy" to my best friend last week!

as i was perusing my files to get back in the blogging world, i found the image below in the turquoise category. a little entry i made into a blog contest of tobi fairley's in october of 2010, the first and only blog contest i've ever entered ... and all two days after i even started reading blogs at all. i happened to win ... yay! and this all played a significant part in why i am where i am today. back to my belief that everything happens for a reason.

naturally, it involved my favorite color, turquoise! :)

keep calm ... and a little different version

my new mantra and the picture that hangs in my office ...

the hysterically funny card my sister sent me this week (that is sometimes what i'd rather do) !

my daughter's room

i wrote a little article in a new local magazine which (thankfully) forced me to step up and get my daughter's room photographed. this is the combination of a mommy who loves beautiful things (and turquoise) and a four year old who adores pink! i think it's a room she can grow into. (i've even been offering to trade with her!) when i designed the house, i was very careful to make sure our kids' rooms were larger than your average child's bedrooms. this way, her queen bed can fit, nice sized bedside chests, etc. each child also has their own bathroom and walk-in closet. they aren't huge by a long shot, but by using a few tricks here and there, we even "made" a little space!

splish ... splash!

we held our son's 2nd birthday party recently for all of his little friends. we weren't sure he would really understand what it was. boy were we wrong! he LOVED it and definitely knew it was all about him. i love having parties at home (and so far have done all of the kids' birthdays at our house.) we did a little back yard theme with boats and whales to celebrate as it is HOT, HOT, HOT here! i generally choose a color theme or the invitation (of course!) first and then run from there. this time, i went with green and navy and ran. very nautical colors and boyish! wish i'd gotten a few more pics but was enjoying spending time with the birthday boy!
