as fitting as the little black dress

this art came for my living room last week and is framed in a heavy black frame ... and i just ordered a pair of these pillows.

it didn't even happen on purpose, but the black felt right in both cases... just like your favorite little black dress. and while feeling so comfortable in my newly completed living room (pictures coming soon), i caught up on my blog reading and magazines only to discover that apparently everyone is decorating with black these days. love it!

is this tommy smythe's living room or his sister's?!? my memory is lacking here.
sorry i'm missing so many references ... it's all thanks to my ipad!

good bones

i was showing my mom some house pictures this week and she commented that they were all so great because of the "good bones" of the house. for me, that nails why i am so drawn to the structure of a home. i literally dream about floor plans at night and am always studying the layouts of places i visit. i am drawn to a beautifully decorated room as much as anyone. definitely! but my passion lies in the architecture and sense of peace you feel when you walk in a room.

this home from a past issue of veranda magazine perfectly fits the bill.

tuesday's turquoise

much like these homes, the only color i see in my otherwise neutral home is my all time favorite TURQUOISE! i tell my four year old daily that turquoise is a neutral ... and see? these great designs agree.

simple. welcoming. calming.

tuesday's turquoise

i am a neutral girl at heart. until it comes to turquoise. i feel like it deserves a day on my blog every week!

an otherwise neutral home looks wonderful with this pop of color!

or as personalized notes to say please and thank you.

kitchen love

one of my current favorite kitchens is by beth webb and nancy pendergrast. love the symmetry, simple lines, neutral finishes.

i thought (a little too much) about what to write for my infamous "first post". i have tons of great ideas but want to get the feel of blogging before i get to the good ones. :) so the decision was made to keep it simple.

i think kitchens appeal to me because they are as much (or more) about the structure, organization and building process than the furnishings. and what a better room to love since we always end up there!
